About Bali
Bali Island, often referred to as the Island of the Gods, is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world, located in Indonesia. Known for its natural beauty, rich culture, and strong traditions, Bali has a huge attraction for both local and foreign tourists. The island of Bali has an area of approximately 5,780 km², with a natural landscape consisting of beaches, volcanoes, rice fields, tropical forests, and river valleys. Bali includes several small neighbouring islands, including Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan.
The majority of Bali’s population adheres to Hindu Dharma or Balinese Hinduism, which is distinct from Hinduism in India. This belief influences almost every aspect of Balinese life, from religious ceremonies to art and culture. Bali is famous for its traditional ceremonies, such as Ngaben (cremation ceremony), Galungan and Kuningan (the feast of the victory of Dharma against Adharma), and Nyepi (Hari Raya Nyepi or the Feast of the Saka New Year, where the whole of Bali goes completely silent with no activity).
Bali is a thriving centre of art and culture, including dance, gamelan music, sculpture, painting, and handicrafts such as woodcarving and silver. Kecak Dance, Barong Dance, and Legong Dance are some of the popular traditional dances.
Bali has an incredible wealth of nature, from tropical rainforests in the mountains to coral reefs around the coast. Travellers come to Bali to enjoy the beautiful nature, rich culture, as well as the opportunity to relax on beaches, spas, and luxury resorts. Besides tourism, agriculture also plays an important role, especially with the terraced rice fields in the famous Ubud and Tegalalang areas. Bali is also famous for its rice and coffee production.
