Bali Chocolate Tour Visiting
Taman Ayun Temple
Taman Ayun Temple was built in 1632 and completed in 1634 by the King of Mengwi, I Gusti Agung Putu, also known as the founder of the Mengwi Kingdom. This temple serves as a place of worship for the ancestral spirits of the Mengwi kings and as a place of worship to the Gods to pray for the welfare of the kingdom’s people.
Taman Ayun Temple has a unique architectural character, with a complex consisting of several courtyards, each symbolizing the three levels of cosmology: the human world, the world of the gods, and nirvana, where God Almighty resides. The temple is surrounded by a large pond, making it appear as if it is floating on water. Within the temple complex are various sacred structures, such as tiered meru (a meru), candi (a temple), gedong (a building), and padmasana (a place for worship).
Taman Ayun Temple also symbolizes the unity and harmony of the nine main temples in Bali, allowing people to worship more easily without having to travel long distances. This temple has been recognized by UNESCO as part of the world cultural heritage site in 2012 along with other Balinese cultural landscapes that carry the Tri Hita Karana philosophy.
Desa Coklat Bali (Bali Chocolate Village)
At Bali Chocolate Village, visitors can experience the full chocolate experience, from growing cocoa and processing it traditionally using simple methods without sophisticated machinery, to making their own chocolate to take home. Visitors are also taught how to make chocolate from cocoa powder using traditional methods, offering a different experience than modern processes.
In addition to educational information about chocolate, Bali Chocolate Village also introduces Balinese culture, such as dances, traditional traditions, and rituals commonly performed by cocoa farmers, including the making of canang (offerings). The main concept is to give visitors the sensation of being a traditional Balinese cocoa farmer.
Facilities include tours of the cocoa plantation, lessons on cocoa plant cultivation, visits to the chocolate processing factory, chocolate-making workshops, a restaurant with a variety of chocolate-based menus, and a chocolate souvenir shop.
Jatiluwih Rice Terrace
Jatiluwih boasts a subak irrigation system rooted in the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, which emphasizes harmony between humans, nature, and spirituality. This subak system has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 2012 due to the unique and sustainable management of water and agriculture in the region.
In addition to the stunning rice terraces, Jatiluwih also offers a variety of tourist activities such as trekking, cycling, horseback riding, sampling local cuisine, taking cooking classes amidst the rice paddies, and enjoying the area’s waterfalls and sunrises. The village is also known as Bali’s rice granary, producing its signature red rice.
